Noreen Pendergast is a local-born permanent resident of Jindabyne and the high plains country of the Snowy Mountains. She has been a local councillor and active member of the Labor Party for many years, and has been honoured for her selfless community work in defence of rural workers and the underprivileged in her region. She was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in recognition of her life and work in 2005.
