- In Western Australia, in 1996, a young veterinary surgeon takes her own life, overcome by the intense stress of her profession and haunted by the abuse she once suffered from an alcoholic father. She is survived by her grandmother, Ruth MacDonald, who must come to terms not only with the sudden death of her beloved granddaughter but with the news that she herself has terminal cancer. Determined to do some good with the last few months of her life, Ruth agrees to take in a boarder, a pilot whose life has been shattered by a tragic flying accident. She gives Michael Andrews the secret diaries of her dead granddaughter in the hope that what he might learn from reading them could save his life and once more give him reason to live. Green Dream is the story of the tragic life and death of an innocent young woman, of the compassion, strength and wisdom of her dying grandmother, and of the triumphant survival of an injured man inspired by them both.
