a| Collection of photographs of the Mackay cyclone, a severe tropical cyclone named after the district that suffered the most damage, struck the town of Mackay and surrounding area 21 January 1918. Record rainfall, strong winds, extensive flooding accompanied by a storm surge and the loss at sea of the schooner, Orete, resulted in 19 deaths and widespread destruction of commercial buildings and houses in Mackay.
