Records of Playworks, 1984-2006 [manuscript]

Established in 1985, Playworks emerged out of the Playing with Time Festival held at the Wharf Theatre, Sydney. Playworks identified itself as the national women's performance writing network and sought to redress the under-representation of women's writing for performance. Playworks shared the responsibility for script writing at the national level with another organisation, the Australian National Playwrights Centre (ANPC). In late 2006 the Australia Council for the Arts decided to consolidate its investment in script development in a single, new organisation and both the ANPC and Playworks were replaced by PlayWriting Australia.
