MS Acc07.012 comprises a variety of papers from the collections of Donald Friend and Attilio Guarracino. Material by Friend includes 24 notebooks with stories, observations and records of purchases, mostly written in Bali; Bali guestbook; notebook containing sketches, labelled Cairns, March 17, 1941; two notebooks containing sketches of Greece by Friend; signed limited edition pages from The farce of Sodom; front page mockup for Coogan's gully. Papers from Guarracino's collection include correspondence of Attilio and Ailsa Guarracino, and The prodigal Australian film promotion flyer and Bumbooziana prospectus (2 boxes).
The Acc07/79 instalment comprises letters from Donald Friend to Attilio Guarracino and proof/mockup copy of the theatre sets and costumes designed by Friend for The farce of Sodom by the Right Honourable Earl of Rochester (1 fol. box).
- Biography/History:

Artist, author and diarist. Donald Stuart Leslie Friend was born in Sydney in 1915. He studied and exhibited art overseas as well as in Australia, and won competitions such as the Blake Prize for religious painting in 1955. After periods of living in various countries, including five years in Ceylon, he returned to Australia in 1962, but moved to Bali in 1967. Friend died in 1989.
Attilio Guarracino was born in Ischia, Italy in 1931 and moved to Australia with Donald Friend in 1951. He lived with Friend for a time at Hill End, New South Wales and became an Australian citizen. Guarracino worked at various occupations before becoming Friend's agent in Australia from 1968-1976.
