- Summary:

1) Diaries 1851-2, 1855 with a few entries for 1860 and 1861, and Jan. to Apr. 1876. The 1851-55 diaries describe the Poonindie mission while the short 1876 diary is mainly concerned with Queensland. 2) Extracts from Hale's diaries, 30-31 Dec. 1851 and 1-8 July 1852. 3) 4 letters 1883-84, from Edward White Benson to Bishop Hale. 4) Copies of Letters Patent 1857, creating the See of Perth and consecrating Hale as first Bishop. 5) Correspondence, reports and press cuttings 1850-75, re the Poonindi Mission including correspondence with the Colonial Secretary's Office, Adelaide and reports on the Mission for 1849, 1850, 1857-59, 1875. 6) Press cuttings, letters and farewell addresses 1875, 1885, on Bishop Hale's departure from W.A. and for England. 7) Addresses 1858-82, by Bishop Hale re the Elementary Education Bill in W.A. (1871), support of Aboriginal children, the responsibility of the Church of England for the welfare of Aborigines and the transportation of convicts to W.A.
