- Summary:
-
Small long day care (LDC) centres generally cater for children from birth to 6 years of age and operate within the private sector on a for profit basis or as community based centres. The government is keen to support those who intend to establish small long day care centres, particularly in rural and remote areas where there is a shortage of childcare places. A number of private operators currently run small LDC centres as viable businesses. It is essential to have business management skills and a conducive environment to operate a successful centre. This guide is designed to assist individuals considering whether to start up a child care centre in rural and, or remote areas of Australia where there is an under-supply of such services.
