- Biography/History:
-
Eliza Younghusband born 184? was the second daughter of William Younghusband (1814-1863), a wealthy South Australian pastoralist, politician and merchant, who in partnership developed riverboat trade on the River Murray. Eliza was probably in her early twenties when William Hodgkinson wrote a poem in Eliza's album on the 12th August 1861 and gave her a watercolour and sketch depicting his experiences with the Burke and Wills Expedition. Hodgkinson left Adelaide shortly after to join John McKinlay's South Australian Burke Relief Expedition, but never returned to South Australia. Eliza Younghusband married Henry Frederick Shipster at North Adelaide in September 1864.
