- Biography/History:

Lawyer and academic. Lyndel Vivien Prott was educated at Sydney Girls' High School and the University of Sydney, graduating in Arts in 1961 and in Law in 1964. A pioneer in cultural heritage law, Prott was appointed Chief of the International Standards Section of the Division of Physical Heritage of UNESCO, in 1990. Prott held the Chair of Cultural Heritage Law in the University of Sydney from January 1991-1995. In 2000 the Government of Austria awarded her the "Cross of Honour for Science and Art (First Class)" and in the same year, she was appointed Director of the Cultural Heritage Division of UNESCO. Prott has lectured in many universities and institutes around the world and has authored, co-authored or edited over 200 books, reports and articles. In 1987 she co-authored Heritage law: the new Commonwealth cultural heritage legislation, with her husband, Professor Patrick O'Keefe. In 2004 the University of Sydney degree of Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) was conferred upon Prott.
