Diary written by Christian Overgard Jensen on board the steam ship S.S. "Barmen". The diary begins from Dragsbak on 8 November 1889 and ends 31 January 1890 in Mackay, Queensland. Jensen describes the activities on board ship, the weather and the places visited, such as Gibraltar, Suez Canal, the Equator and Port Adelaide. Included are transcripts of five newspaper clippings from "The Courier", dated from 9 April 1963 to 27 April 1863 on the ship "Queen of Colonies".

Christian Overgard Jensen was born on 29 November 1852 in Thisted, Denmark. His wife, Inger (nee Christensen) was born on 6 April 1866. They were married on 20 November 1885 and eventually settled at West End in Townsville where Jensen worked as a carpenter and joiner. They had 10 children.
