The album includes photographs of the voyage on the SS Greifswald to Australia and of Fremantle and the German consul and his family. It includes images of the military camp at Fremantle (first place of detention), the State Hostel on Rottnest Island, the internees daily and social life, Aboriginal residents on Rottnest Island and camps at Trial Bay, Holsworthy and Liverpool.
- Biography/History:

Karl Lehmann was born in Japan in 1886 to German-Japanese parents. He was serving on the SS Greifswald when it called into Fremantle a few days after war was declared. The ship was seized and the crew interned on Rottnest Island. By the 4 September 1914, four other German steamers were taken including the SS Thüringen.
