MS Acc10.186 comprises the handwritten letter dated le 23 prerial an 12 (i.e. 11 June 1804) from Barthélemy Faujas-de-Saint-Fond to Louis de Freycinet, welcoming his safe return from the Baudin expedition to Australia. He laments Baudin's command of the expedition, lauds the important observations and specimens collected, and acknowledges the work of the late astronomer Francois Venier during the voyage.
- Biography/History:

French geologist and traveller. Barthélemy Faujas-de-Saint-Fond was appointed assistant naturalist to the Muséum d'histoire naturelle by Louis XVI, and became the first professor of geology at the Jardin des Plantes in 1793. He had a close connection with the Freycinet family and was a friend of Sir Joseph Banks.

- Single page autograph letter on light blue watermarked paper, folded to letter size. Closely written to the first page with 21 lines of text, the fourth page an address panel, and the others blank. Old folds with a small tear at the original seal.
