Rose de Freycinet in "all the finery I had" accompanies Louis on a ceremonial occasion in Dili, East Timor on the expedition of the Uranie. The image depicts Rose stepping ashore to be greeted by the Portuguese Governor, Don Jose Pinto Alcoforado d'Azevedo e Souza and is as described in Rose's journal, "The Governor was present with all of his staff. When I stepped ashore he gave me his hand and invited me to share with him the shade of a huge parasol carried by a Timorese slave dressed in strange clothes. A similar parasol was held over Louis' head". Arago's version shows a less than dignified view of an officer upended in the bow of the longboat and demonstrates his wit and humour. The official version of the scene in the narrative of the voyage, depicts a formal occasion and where Rose is absent from the scene.
