- Summary:
-
The purpose of this publication was to identify poverty and to describe particular poverty situations in Kentucky. Poverty is described as being a condition of deprivation in any aspect of living which handicaps a person in acquiring the good things of life. For measuring the extent of poverty in Kentucky, the following factors were considered--(1) income, (2) education, (3) employment, (4) housing, (5) health, (6) social participation, and (7) welfare recipients. Various tables are presented which analyze the composition of the poverty-stricken segment of the population in Kentucky. To combat these problems of poverty, the national committee for economic development recommended a nine-point program of action concerning education and training, and calling for a combination of federal, state, local, and private effort. The program was presented very briefly in the publication. (es)
