- Volumes 4 and 5 include articles about James Cook by Wilhelm Wekhrlin. The article in vol. 4 contains a strong attack on James Cook, criticising his conduct towards the natives of the countries he explored. Wekhrlin says he is pleased about Cook's death, saying: "If Cook did not deserve his fate, then nobody deserved it" and adding that "in Europe he would have been beheaded". In vol. 5 Wekhrlin does a complete reversal of this position after reading an essay by Lichtenberg titled "Einige Lebensumstände von James Cook" and provides a formal apology. In recompense for his previous criticism Wekhrlin also provides a full reproduction of Lichtenberg's essay on Cook augmented by his own comments.
