- Summary:
-
Industrial arts must be prepared to respond to the changes brought about by contemporary technological advancement. The impact that technology will have upon people and the impact of information processing upon man and his world should be of major concern to industrial arts educators. Principal areas of consideration should be the effects of technology and information processing on productivity, consumption, employment, leisure, the unskilled, and mobility. All of these factors will have implications for industrial arts teacher education in regard to man and the labor force, the economy, technology, enterprises, and the educational enterprise. If industrial arts programs are to assume the responsibility for informing youth and vocationally ill-prepared adults about contemporary work and technology, industrial arts teacher education must foster understandings of both the technical and the human sides of enterprise.
