This study represents part of an effort to assess the educational needs of Texas pupils. Based on a 1967 replication study of 69,000 Texas high school seniors, the report describes demographic information and test scores on the American College Test (ACT). The report was designed to assist educational leaders in improving the quality of Texas elementary and secondary public schools. The same version of the ACT battery and pupil information questionnaire were administered as had been in 1967. Although the validity question arising from the change in student attitude toward testing sharply constricts interpretation of changes in the ACT scores obtained, the following conclusions are supported by both the 1967 and 1971 data: (1) the scores of over half of the Mexican American and Black seniors were below the lowest quartile for the Anglo seniors; and (2) the higher the socioeconomic status of the seniors' families, the higher the scores.
