The document provides information on the name of the program, the institution, prerequisites, length of course, and certificate or degree offered for 81 programs for the training of physician assistants as part of Operation MEDIHC (Military Experience Directed Into Health Careers). Fifty-three programs are in primary care; the remaining 28 are specialty programs in the following fields: pathology, surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics, opthalmology, podiatry, urology, emergency medicine, nuclear medicine, anesthesiology, circulatory medicine, and cardiopulmonary medicine. Programs approved by the American Medical Association on Medical Education as meeting their program requirements either for the Assistant to the Primary Care Physician or a specialty physician assistant program are designated.
