- Summary:
-
This study investigated the relationship among teacher expectations for the class, instructional behaviors, and class achievement. Involved in the study were 30 teachers from randomly selected elementary schools. Their expectations were measured by three scales: nature of the class, expectations of self, and comparative expectations. Their behaviors were related in terms of provision of learning opportunities, clarity of instruction, and enthusiasm in teaching. Multivariate analysis provided little evidence for the relationships; thus, it was concluded that favorable teacher expectations and behaviors are probably necessary but are not sufficient factors for high achievement of the class.
