- Summary:
-
A family history inventory administered to mothers of 1,206 subjects yielded 12 stable factors which were used as predictors of educational functioning at ages five to seven in a double cross-validation design. In the majority of instances, it was found that family history variates were better predictors of educational functioning than was socioeconomic status. Some variates such as school related activities at age five and reading background of the mother were strongly associated with educational measures at all ages, while other factors such as parental agreement on child-rearing practices and child's TV viewing activities showed little relationship with any educational outcomes.
