- Summary:
-
The counseling profession has begun to establish standards for counselor educator programs, for counseling agencies and for counselors. Most counselors are no longer neutral in the counseling interviews or in life itself, nor can they be. Counseling, as well as education, will be viewed as a life-long concept. Future counselors will move into other areas where their skills are needed in society. In the future counseling will be possibly more future-oriented than it is now. The new futurist counselors will help shape the future, rather than let events take place in a random manner. The new counselor can be much more of an activist and agent for change. He can and will change the occupational structure. Counselors can help avoid future shock by accentuating the positive and innovative changes of the future. (Author/LEB)
