- Summary:
-
The question of how the abilities of teacher educators can be identified and what these abilities should be is addressed. The following five ways of identifying abilities are discussed: (1) performing a task analysis of what teacher educators do; (2) determining what effective classroom teachers do and preparing teacher educators to produce teachers who do those things; (3) determining what classroom teachers do in certain selected settings and preparing teacher educators who can produce teachers effective in those settings; (4) soliciting teacher educator abilities from teacher educators themselves; and (5) culling ideas about the education of teacher educators from theorists. The prime objective of this research is to produce teachers with abilities that will promote desired pupil outcomes. (JD)
