The activities suggested in this workbook for participants in a continuing education program for inservice school media specialists are designed to develop the trainee's skills in identifying instances of sexism and sex stereotyping in education, and in promoting sex fairness in the library. Exercises and tests on the first module are concerned with assumptions about the sexes and are intended to test the participant's awareness of sex bias in contemporary American society. Focusing on sexism and sex-role stereotyping in school materials, the second module provides material the student may analyze for gender marking and covert sexist messages. Ability to recognize sex-fair materials is tested in the third, while the fourth stresses the recognition of sex-fair resources for school libraries, especially those sources which may be used to counterbalance the reference collection. In the final module, trainees are asked to plan an inservice workshop for teachers, evaluate equity planning suggestions, and evaluate this training program. (FM)
