This bibliography catalogs all the literature in the National Criminals Justice Reference Service database on the topic of alternatives to institutionalization. The materials represented pertain to such diverse alternatives as juvenile training schools, pre-release centers, halfway houses, work-release programs, weekend sentencing, restitution, group and foster homes, community service orders, probation and parole. Additionally, materials on bail and release on recognizance are included when they serve as a means of avoiding incarceration. The citations are presented in alphabetical order by title.
