The paper reviews the recent development of legislation on the education of handicapped children in the Republic of China, with particular emphasis on the nine-year Basic Education Act of 1968 and The Regulation concerning the Expansion and Improvement of Special Education. Considered is the impact of legislation on the categories of beneficiaries of special education, special education administration, identification and placement of handicapped children, and teacher preparation and study programs.
