A total of 47 papers representing the broad research and extension interests related to rural areas are included in this volume. The 13 sessions are entitled Rural Structure and Process, Industrialization, Migration, Health and Alcohol, Quality of Life, Occupations and Work, Applied Sociology, Education, Network Analysis, Poverty, Status Aspirations and Attainments, Potpourri, and Consumers. The Education session includes three papers: Two Paths into Home Economics: A Study of Black and White Women in 1890 and 1862 Land Grant Universities; Southern Urban Aggies: A Preliminary Look; and Student Achievement Test Scores in Alabama: Rural and Urban Schools. The Potpourri session includes four papers: Orientations Toward International Service; Factors Associated with Interaction Patterns Between College Students and Grandparents; Rural Sociology in the 1980's; and The Criteria Dilemma and Evaluating Extension Programs. The final portion of the document includes minutes of the business meeting, the program for the entire meeting, and a list of the participants. (AN)
