This document suggests learning activities, teaching methods, objectives, and evaluation measures for a second grade consumer education unit on quarters. The unit, which requires approximately six hours of class time, reinforces basic social studies and mathematics skills including following sequences of numbers, distinguishing left from right, and making wise consumer decisions. Specific objectives are to teach students to recognize quarters (color, size, value, etc.) and to understand the use of quarters in real life. Students are involved in a variety of activities including listening to and answering questions about a story involving shopping in a candy store, coloring illustrations of quarters, playing quarter-related board and card games, filling in work sheets, and role playing selling and purchasing in a candy store. Included for each activity are directions, objectives, a list of materials, discussion questions, work sheets, game regulations (where necessary), tests, and answer sheets. (DB)
