- Summary:
-
The study surveyed 33 teachers of the emotionally disabled to obtain information to help in teacher recruitment and to learn about teacher attrition and burnout. Demographic data identified teacher characteristics. Data gathered included job satisfactions, dissatisfactions, and reasons for leaving the job. A followup structured telephone interview was conducted to gain additional information and to clarify initial findings of the study. Major areas of dissatisfaction included: tired of hassles with the administration, inconsistent support staff, clerical and paper work, and lack of recognition for a job well done. A major area of satisfaction was that teachers derive satisfaction from student relationships and student growth. Major reasons for leaving the job were the same as the major dissatisfactions. Interview forms are appended. (Author/SBH)
