This guidebook was designed to assist sex equity coordinators in the Los Angeles Community College District in promoting the recruitment, retention, and placement of students in vocational programs that are non-traditional for their sex. The guidebook's first ten chapters present: (1) outlines of relevant legislation and legal guidelines for eliminating sex discrimination; (2) a glossary of sex equity terms; (3) a list of the legislatively mandated responsibilities of the sex equity coordinator, a timeline for fulfilling these obligations by Spring 1981, and suggestions for activities coordinators might initiate; (4) examples of seven government sex equity forms and descriptions of their intended use; (5) a framework for planning and evaluating activities and services; (6) guidelines for identifying and eliminating stereotyped and discriminatory language in publicity materials; (7) materials for a three-hour teacher workshop and class visits concerning sex equity; (8) an instrument for evaluating sex bias in lectures and curriculum materials; (9) suggestions for involving student services staff in sex equity; and (10) a discussion of the interpersonal skills needed by coordinators. The final sections alert the reader to sex equity projects in California community colleges, sex equity programs offered in the District in l979-l980, relevant films available through the District, and 138 resources.
