- Summary:
-
The intent of Women Inquire Into Science and Engineering (WISE) project was to develop recruiting and counseling procedures to increase the number of female high school students' interest and participation in the Inquiry Into Science and Engineering Class where classroom instruction and hands-on experience working with scientists and engineers are provided. Methods to systematically draw women into science professions were implemented. Factors affecting female representation in scientific and engineering professions as well as in the WISE class were identified. This knowledge was used to develop three programs to enhance student career interests: (1) the mentor program; (2) an audio-visual program; and (3) a role model program. (Author/DS)
