To assess regular classroom teachers' perceptions of mainstreaming, a 22 item questionnaire was completed by 117 teachers (K through 12). Among results were that nearly half of the Ss indicated a lack of preparation for implementing mainstreaming; 47% tended to be very willing to accept aminstreamed students; 42% said mainstreaming was working somewhat; over 60% indicated there was no effect on normal peers; 31.6% felt that regular students had a positive effect on the mainstreamed students; almost one third of the teachers indicated that mainstreamed students had negative effects on their teaching performance; and 52.8% of the teachers perceived mainstreaming as positively affecting the exceptional child. Results also indicated that educational philosophy and academic preparation may re related to the perceptions of the effects of mainstreaming. (CL)
