The purpose of this manual is to identify teaching skills and their justification and objectives in a learning situation and to suggest a few of a wide selection of professional activities and services which meet these objectives and satisfy learner needs. The manual is designed for inservice teacher education activities or supervisory programs. Activities and objectives in 14 skill areas are suggested which are intended to meet learners' needs: (1) meaningful interpersonal interactions in a variety of environments and situations; (2) a supportive physical environment which includes appropriate use of space, time, and materials; (3) direction and security from the surrounding society and culture; (4) compelling, inspiring reasons to focus attention on the learning task; (5) sensory-motor health and a general sense of wellbeing; (6) developing intellectual aptitude and expanding intellectual capabilities; (7) a supportive, actualizing self-concept (8) perceptual clarity; (9) cognitive comprehension and understanding; (10) utilizing past experiences and previous trials and errors; (11) being a productive and an active individual; (12) recognition and rewards; (13) feedback and monitoring performance results; and (14) expressing creativity and finding solutions to problems. A self-assessment guide is provided, and three evaluation procedures are suggested for measuring personal progress in the development of the skills. (JD)
