- Summary:
-
The manual, one of a series designed to help Florida school districts provide special programs for exceptional students, focuses on approaches for successful interagency planning for profoundly mentally handicapped (PMH) students. Chapter 1 introduces the principal agencies involved--state department of education, local school districts, and the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services (HRS)--and reviews their structure and service offerings. Chapter 2 covers statutes, rules and regulations affecting plans for PMH students. Chapter 3 centers on the Individual Educational program, contrasting it with the habilitation plan used for clients of HRS. Both types of plans are explained in terms of formats and definitions. In the final chapter, four methods of agency coordination through interagency planning and service provision are reviewed. The chapter suggests a continuum of coordination practices and examines considerations in implementing each alternative. (CL)
