This courseware evaluation rates the "Microcomputer Applications in Vocational Education: Home Economics" program developed by the Illinois State Board of Education. (This series of programs--not contained in this document--includes interior decorating estimating, pounds away program, decision analysis, fiber care, clothing figure analysis, stain removal, consumer math, housing options, home loan analysis, personal budget, utilities, nutrition analysis, home owner's capital gain, measurement conversion, and recipe analysis.) Part A describes the program in terms of hardware requirements (Apple II, TRS 80 III, Pet Basic 3 Commodore), indicates its suitability for grades 11 through adult, and estimates time for use (15-20 minutes). Availability information includes cost ($11.00--Apple and TRS, $6.25--Pet) and contact address. Part B contains the evaluation criteria in eight categories; reviewer ratings appear as yes, somewhat, no, and not applicable, with explanatory comments. Part C summarizes the evaluation in terms of strengths (performs calculations related to home economics subjects and provides helpful information for homemakers) and weaknesses (no printed documentation and difficulty in reading the screen). A summary section shows that this courseware received overall ratings of "somewhat" in the categories of subject matter, technical presentation, student interaction, and documentation. (The program interaction, student evaluation, and work behaviors criteria were not applicable.) This courseware is recommended with reservations, due to difficulty in obtaining desired results. (SK)
