Intended to provide an alternative approach to learning situations or enhance existing programs, this docoument outlines an instructional unit about model rocketry. A philosophy statement is included which stresses the need for teaching about science-related social issues. Goals of the unit are stated for fine arts, mathematics, physical education, reading, natural science, and social sciences. The unit is divided into the three major areas of construction, launch, and experimentation, with proficiency requirements and an instructional sequence included for each. The "course guide" section contains descriptions of instructional activities and evaluation strategies, both of which are cross-referenced to specific proficiency requirements and the instructional sequence. Additional activities are provided in the appendix, along with a model rocketry safety code. Also included is a list of key vocabulary words used in the unit. (TW)
