Designed to assist teachers in planning units on Japan, this guide identifies widely available instructional materials that have been found to be effective. The guide is organized in six sections. Sections 1-4 list recommended curriculum and audiovisual materials for elementary and secondary classrooms with purchase and/or rental information included. The "teacher testimonials" cited for some of the items are the result of the evaluative work of 30 educators who attended a week-long seminar on teaching about Japan organized by the Midwest Program For Teaching About Japan in 1986. Section 5 identifies some of the free materials available through Japanese government and business offices; and Section 6 lists a variety of reference materials. (KWL)
