Contents of this double journal issue concern immunization and primary health care of children. The issue decribes vaccine storage and sterilization techniques, giving particular emphasis to the role of the cold chain, i.e., the maintenance of a specific temperature range to assure potency of vaccines as they are moved from a national storage center to regional storage centers, peripheral immunization centers, clinics, and mobile teams. The first section of the issue discusses immunization and primary health care, vaccines, organization of vaccination, community participation, training of personnel, evaluation of immunization programs, and accelerating the implementation of immunization programs. The section on storage and sterilization techniques focuses on reasons for the cold chain, management of vaccine supplies, needed facilities and their use, monitoring the cold chain, and training persons responsible for maintaining the cold chain. An appendix briefly discusses the activities of a resarch unit known as the GRET/GERES (Groupe de Recherches et d'Echanges Technologiques/Groupe Energies Renouvelables) renewable energies unit, which is concerned with the use of renewable energies and the reduction of the technical and economic burden of energy on health organizations.
