This curriculum guide provides materials for a course of instruction designed for training concrete masons who will make their careers in construction. It contains 4 sections and 18 instructional units in a standard format. Eight basic components that form a unit of instruction are performance objectives, suggested activities for the teacher, information sheets, assignment sheets, job sheets, transparency masters and supplements, tests, and answers to tests and assignment sheets. Depending on specific objectives, transparency masters, supplements, assignment sheets, or job sheets may not be included. The five units in the introduction section concern the free enterprise system, America's infrastructure, industry orientation, history of cement industry, and safety and basic first aid. Section 2, which supplies related information, contains units on basic math, measuring, basic plan reading, and estimating. Section 3, which concerns fundamentals of concrete construction, has 4 units on concrete ingredients, designing concrete mixes, admixtures, and specifications and testing. The five units in the final section focus on forming tools, hand tools, power tools, miscellaneous equipment, and leveling instruments. (YLB)
