The Lucretia Crocker Program recognizes the importance and potential impact of teacher-initiated innovation in public schools. The program is named for the woman who set up educational programs for emancipated blacks after the Civil War and promoted educational opportunity for blacks and women. Brief descriptions are given of the following innovative programs: (1) "Project Barn/Cod" (Joy Buhler); (2) "Writing Across the Curriculum" (Marna Bunce); (3) "Teaching as Thinking" (Terri Caffelle); (4) "Pathfinder Writing Project" (Susan Costa); (5) "Planting and Learning Activity Yards" (Bruce Robert Dean); (6) "Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum Model for K-1" (Karen DeRusha); (7) "The Transitional Team" (Edmund Nazzaro); (8) "The Mexican Exchange" (Nancy Rillings); (9) "Student Team Learning" (Faye Ruopp); (10) "How Much Does a Sand Dune Weigh?" (Barbara Shea and Samuel Slarskey); (11) "Witnessing the Past" (Susan Szachowicz); (12) "All Aboard for Black History" (Mary Ann Thompson); (13) "The Childrens Literature Project" (Joan Tieman); and (14) "Renaissance in the Public Schools" (Carolee Varga and Pauline Boutin).
