- Summary:
-
This study sought to determine the extent to which teacher education programs were addressing the realities of teaching tasks that will be faced by their students who are training to teach vocational education in secondary schools in Zimbabwe. Students and lecturers from two schools of education responded to questionnaires, interviews, and workshop check-lists, providing data for the study. Based upon the analysis of data obtained, twenty conclusions were drawn, e.g., student teachers received enough preparation for their teaching tasks but there was some change of attitude evidenced as they progressed in the program as to the relevance of what they were learning. While some of the conclusions were consistent with those of findings of similar studies, several were not. Apart from comparing and contrasting the conclusions to the findings of similar studies, theories and arguments put forward by other authors and researchers are used to support the conclusions. The instruments used in the study, syllabi of technical subject courses at one university in Zimbabwe, and charts displaying findings are appended. (JD).
