The booklet is a greatly expanded and improved edition of a manual designed to provide New York State Board Members, Education Department staff, and others with information concerning New York State's governance of 31 licensed professions. It covers the duties, responsibilities, authority, and working relationships of the 20 State Boards and the 12 Executive Secretaries, who under the Board of Regents and the State Education Department govern these professions. Topics considered include Board membership, activities of the State Boards, and Executive Secretaries and State Board Offices. A chapter on Board administration covers such topics as meetings, bylaws, fiscal affairs, relations with professional organizations, communications, policy, liability, and the Professional Assistance Program. Guidelines for payment of honoraria are given in a separate chapter. Six appendixes provide information on the following: professional regulation in New York State, professions licensed or certified by the Board of Regents, alignment of responsibilities, composition of State Boards, functions of the State Board Offices, and the professional disciplinary process in New York.
