This document presents career planning information based on the Washington Occupational Information System in a tabloid-size newspaper format. Part 1 includes articles on the Washington Occupational Information System; career clusters; occupational information tables; educational opportunities (including choosing a vocational school, private vocational schools, and public schools); training opportunities; licensing; how to afford education and training programs; addresses of institutions; the Job Training Partnership Act; military career opportunities; nontraditional employment; and special services available for handicapped students. Part 2 leads readers through five steps to getting a job (know yourself, know the employer, develop a resume, complete the application form, and attend the job interview). Included are seven exercises that can help readers use what they know about themselves in order to choose a career option; a form to be completed so that readers can become informed about a particular potential employer; sources for finding job openings; advice about completing a job application; how to write cover letters, use the telephone in a job search, and find job-related information in the library; employee and employer rights and expectations; and handling rejection shock.
