This manual is intended for use at demonstration sites of the Nontraditional Employment Training (NET) project, which is in turn designed to provide Private Industry Councils with a model for implementing the Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) Act (Public Law 102-235). Included in the manual are the following: excepts from newspapers and journals, published curricula, and government agency publications; lesson plans; student handouts; and learning activities (including self-evaluation instruments and worksheets). Chapter 1 examines myths and facts about nontraditional occupations for women, and Chapter 2 provides overviews of the NEW Act and NET project. Discussed in chapters 3 through 7 are the following aspects of NET project implementation: recruitment, assessment, prevocational training, sexual harassment, and job development and placement. Chapter 8 contains the following resources: lists of national and state nontraditional employment, training, and education resources and potential sources of funding for nontraditional training efforts; a 121-item bibliography on nontraditional occupations for women; annotated listings of successful Job Training Partnership Act nontraditional employment and training programs and nontraditional occupations training curricula; and information about Wider Opportunities for Women, Inc., and its publications and membership. The chapter on sexual harassment includes a 56-item bibliography. (MN)
