Since 1989, the Texas Education Agency has reported selected results from the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the American College Testing (ACT) Program's original and Enhanced ACT Assessment for prior year graduating seniors. This fourth annual report presents data for the 1990-91 graduating class. Score data from these examinations are included in the Texas Academic Indicator System. Texas statewide and district results are presented, along with aggregate results of the nation and other states. The Texas mean SAT total remained below the national mean, with a Texas mean of 874 in 1991, compared with the national 896, and a 1992 Texas mean of 876, compared with the national 899. The mean ACT composite score gap between Texas and the nation has lessened over the past 21 years. In general, Texas SAT-tested students have completed fewer academic courses than students nationally, supporting the notion of different academic preparedness, but better prepared Texas students score as well or higher than do students nationwide. Four tables present test results. An appendix provides five more detailed tables of regional results. (Contains 15 references.) (SLD)
