This book is used as a two-day workshop for teachers in how to use the "History Alive!" program. The three premises of the program include: (1) cooperative interaction; (2) multiple intelligences; and (3) the spiral curriculum. The strategies developed focus upon: (1) Interactive Slide Lectures; (2) Social Studies Skill Builders; (3) Experiential Exercises; (4) Writing for Understanding; (5) Response Groups; and (6) Problem Solving Groupwork. Other suggestions include using interactive student notebooks, creating total student engagement, and using culminating projects. The overall goal is to create a cooperative, tolerant classroom environment. Tools and strategies for implementing the "History Alive!" approach are included in the book. (EH)
