Each Maryland public campus submits annual minority achievement reports as part of the state-mandated accountability process. This is a report of the 1995 data. In 1995, Prince George's Community College had the largest number of African-American undergraduate students (7,623) followed by Morgan (5,337), Baltimore City Community College (4,877), Montgomery College (4,511), University of Maryland College Park (3,218), Coppin (2,826), and Bowie (2,757). Between 1991 and 1995, the number of African-American students increased by 17 percent at public four-year campuses and by 18 percent at community colleges. The percentage of first-time full-time freshmen who are African-American increased from 25 percent in 1991 to 28 percent in 1995. The second year retention rates for African-American students at public four-year campuses remained essentially the same at 75 percent, compared to 79 percent for all students, between 1990 and 1994. Six year graduation rates for African-American students at public four-year campuses increased from 30 percent for the class of 1984 to 39 percent for the class of 1989. Statewide, there has been a 21 percent increase in the number of African-American full-time faculty between 1990 and 1995. Data are displayed in tables for institution and other categories. (JLS)
