This resource packet addresses the need for interpretive materials of the prehistory and early history of the state of Arkansas. These curriculum-focused activities, based on flyers and books created by the Arkansas Archaeology Survey, encourage integration of archaeological and historical study into classroom instruction. The teacher's guide is designed for use with K-5 students and is composed of a preface and three sections. Section 1 describes each component of the packet, including the teacher's guide, activity sheets, and supplementary materials. Section 2 gives 14 activities. For each activity, suggested grade level, materials needed, course content skills, references, ideas, sources, directions, complementary activities, solutions, and activity sheets are provided. Section 3 contains the Arkansas Archeological Survey's flyers that examine aspects of the prehistory and early history of the state. Two books containing reading materials and resource lists also are provided: "Crossroads of the Past: 12,000 Years of Indian Life in Arkansas" (Frank Schambach; Leslie Newell) which gives an overview of the history and ways of life of early peoples who inhabited Arkansas and "Paths of Our Children" (George Sabo III) which offers a brief introduction to the historic Indians of Arkansas.
