This keynote address discusses far-reaching effects of technology on the education of young children. The speech contains a brief description of the course technological advancements have taken, the way technology has been integrated into daily life, and prevalent education-related uses of the Internet. New technologies are important for early childhood educators. Issues of misuse and lack of privacy are also presented. The paper then addresses what early childhood educators gain and lose in the new information society. Using as an example the National Parent Information Network and its attempts to address issues of parental isolation from salient information, families and their exeriences in the technological world are described along with what families can gain and lose in the new technological age.
