This resource guide was developed to promote the National Observance of Children's Sabbaths, a program of prayer, education, community service, and advocacy with and on behalf of children. The guide provides materials for planning, promoting, and implementing a Children's Sabbath specific to particular faith traditions and recounts the experiences of many congregations and local communities that have already been involved with the program. The guide includes: (1) planning and promotional suggestions; (2) services and liturgical resources for Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, and other faith traditions; (3) lesson plans and other educational resources and practical activity ideas for adults and children; and (4) suggestions for follow-up initiatives to maintain a commitment to children. Following a brief overview, section two of the guide presents messages and endorsements in support of the program. Section three, "Planning and Promoting Your Children's Sabbath," includes planning guides, media releases, and clip art. Section four, "Worship Resources," provides faith specific information for Christian, Jewish, and Interfaith programs, while section five, "Educational Resources for All Age Groups," provides specific lesson plans. Section six, "Children's Sabbath in Action," provides practical ideas for implementing and sustaining the program. Section seven, "Resources for Child Advocates," contains resource lists and evaluation forms. (SD)
