This report includes descriptions of the following Indiana public institutions: Indiana University, Purdue University, Ball State University, Indiana State University, University of Southern Indiana, Vincennes University, and Ivy Tech State College. For each institution, the following information is available: mission, enrollment breakdown, cost and financial aid data, freshman profile, retention and graduation rates, largest program areas, productivity profile, and quality indictors such as Gourman ratings, mean GRE scores, licensure pass rates, and nationally ranked/accredited programs. Data about the overall higher education system in Indiana are also presented, including the following: (1) there are 5 public, four-year institutions; 2 public, two-year colleges; 30 private, four-year institutions; and 2 private, two-year colleges; (2) there were 260,695 students enrolled in Indiana higher education, 78% of whom attend a public college or university; (3) minorities comprise 11.5% of the enrollment at the public colleges and universities; (4) the state appropriation for higher education in Indiana was $1.25 billion for the academic year 1997-98; and (5) the average in-state tuition and fees for 1997-98 ranged from $2,057 at the public two-year colleges to $14,387 at the private four-year colleges and universities.
